synapse in the community

Nothing gets Synapsians out in the community like a little sun, a little physical exertion, a little teamwork, all for a good cause. Over the past month, Synapse employees have taken part in two big community events: HomeFront, a volunteer-driven home repair program and Hope in Motion, benefiting Stamford Hospital’s Bennett Cancer Center. In both cases, Synapsian spirit was on full display.

Over the course of a workday in May, a team of 50 employees descended on a house in Stamford for a little TLC. Armed with hammers, saws, paintbrushes, and rakes, in a few short hours, the team had replaced doors, landscaped, painted five rooms, and completed a host of repair work. The homeowner likened it to winning the lottery. Event organizers and Synapse employees, Sarah Orlando and Paul Rivenburg, noted that it was a great day of working as a team and making a difference in the life of a Stamford resident. Sarah commented, “The amount of effort and love that went into the project was truly astounding and we provided a service that was otherwise out of reach.”

We followed this up by forming a team and fundraising for the 18th annual Hope in Motion event held on June 2nd in downtown Stamford. We had walkers; we had runners; we had bakers of baked goods for our charity bake sale; we had purchasers of said baked goods. In the end, the Synapse team raised over $1700 in donations that go to benefit cancer center patients and their families with quality-of-life services, all free of charge! The day turned out great, with thousands of people in Columbus Park showing their support for cancer patients, honoring survivors, and remembering those who lost their battles. Despite the blazing heat, all of the Synapse runners and walkers finished the 5K and remarked they’d do it again…it was for such a good cause.

Our employees always go above and beyond, and the above is just another such example. Next up, look for us at the bowling alley where we’ll host our Special Olympics Bowling Event. We’ll see if we’re as good bowlers as we are home DIYers!
