the influence of TIME

TIME Kayne West Cover

Titans. Pioneers. Artists. Leaders. Icons.

Though it sounds like words used to describe periods in history, it is in fact a list of categories within TIME’s 100 Most Influential People list. You’ve probably heard of this list before, but I highly suggest you give it a good read. As TIME managing editor Nancy Gibbs said, “every year we hope the list will introduce you to influential people you might not have met before.” And the list does not disappoint.

Written by colleagues, friends, or simply the inspired, these 100 stories bring to light people from all around the world who are making a difference. You’ll most likely recognize this year’s front-runner: Kanye West. His unconventional personality and style, at times, overshadow his entrepreneurship and business savvy. But luckily, Elon Musk (CEO of Tesla and SpaceX) has captured his essence in a very unique way.

As we watch the print industry explore beyond the page, readers begin to reap the benefits. This year’s list is accompanied by short video vignettes that help illustrate the written word. Check out the feature for Misty Copeland, an American Ballet Theatre soloist who overcame many odds to defy her critics. Her story is written by Nadia Comaneci, a five-time Olympic gold medalist.

It’s really hard to single out my favorite feature so my advice to you: read ’em all!
